Internet security and privacy is a serious issue. While we at Sterling Consulting do address this sort of thing professionally as part of our business, we also feel the need to offer some very basic concepts to the average home user as a public service. This is not meant to be all inclusive, a total solution, a guide for a business or a tutorial. It is just meant to be a few helpful hints. Examples are for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows Me and Windows 2000, but are generally applicable to any operating system.

The whole subject is a very broad one. And there are many things you might be sorry about later if you don't maintain your security and privacy. These range from actual hacking into your computer to the nuisance of unsolicited commercial e-mail (Spam or UCE). And above all, be ever so careful about any personal or financial information (credit card numbers for example) you give out over the Internet.

Anyway here are a few basic things you can either do or look out for.

And in case you missed it on our main page, here once again is our privacy statement. We at Sterling Consulting take this very seriously.
